Our community agriculture and livelihoods programming ensure sustainable interventions that aim to uplift communities by increasing food security and household income.
How We Do This:
JAM currently provides Food Security and Livelihood assistance to communities in Angola, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Rwanda and Uganda.
Our programs provide the training, tools and seeds needed to start community gardens, and empower our beneficiaries to plant and grow their own vegetables, used for both household consumption and income generation.
Through these initiatives, we aim to achieve the following objectives:
- Improve food security in vulnerable communities
- Uplift women by providing stable incomes
- Improve nutritional outcomes
- Empowerment and restoration of dignity
As a complement to our school feeding programs, school gardens, and other grassroots educational initiatives are implemented for a greater variety and nutritional fortification in the diet.
- Build home-grown school feeding
- Encourage learning through planting and harvesting
- Improve nutritional outcomes and diet diversification
Without community participation, these projects cannot be successful and JAM engages with community leaders on an ongoing basis. Our Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems ensure that minimum standards are met but also include household visits, beneficiary liaison and progress monitoring. Lessons and data are recorded to be
shared with relevant parties ensuring transparency and accountability.
JAM is a member of the Food Security Cluster, working in partnership with other NGOs and aid organizations, governments, and various stakeholders to coordinate food security responses in humanitarian crises.
JAM is also a part of the Cash Learning Partnerships Network, CaLP, where we are working towards strengthening and
promoting multi-sectoral Cash & Voucher programing capacity in JAM.
Our Food Security and Livelihood programs are tailored to align with the United
Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), those of No Poverty, Zero Hunger,
Good Health and Well Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality and
Clean Water and Sanitation.
