I had a good day, but very heartbreaking.
I was with a lady who had fled to Uganda after her husband was killed in the fighting. She was in a refugee camp where she lost one of her children through severe malnutrition, so she returned to Bor in South Sudan hoping she would get food there.
She just cries uncontrollably and African woman don’t cry easily. She said there is not enough food here and her children are slowly dying because there is not enough food. Returnees only get food for one month after they return – this is not right. Just hearing her pain and desperate plea for her children just touched and stayed with me. Her three children are badly malnourished.
Sometimes I really struggle, it just breaks my heart. I guess that is why I am where I am, doing what I do.
